TURA: Nokmas of Garo Hills have decided to oppose the proposed Meghalaya Grass Root Institutions Governance Bill, 2015.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here on Thursday.
It was also decided that if the state government makes any attempt in future to introduce such a bill which will reduce the powers of  the traditional heads, all 1500 Nokmas along with their chras and Maharis would oppose it tooth and nail. The meeting also decided to extend its support to all the Khasi and Jaintia headmen who have been demanding enactment of Village Administration Bill.
