Late PM Indira Gandhi remembered

SHILLONG: The  Meghalaya Youth Congress Committee ( MPYC)  has commemorated the death anniversary of former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi with a floral tribute and one  minute  silence at Congress Bhawan in Tura on Saturday.
After the function at Congress Bhawan, a public peace rally was organized  under the  theme “Say no to Suppression, Oppression and Discrimination.”
The rally was organised in view of the present law and order situation in Garo Hills and also to appeal for the unconditional release of the BDO of Chokpot, Jude Rangku T. Sangma.
“We urge the militants to surrender and join the mainstream because the people of Garo Hills don’t want to live under fear and threats”, the MPYC said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
According to MPYC , iIf there is peace ,there will always be progress and prosperity.
“ We want unconditional peace. Guns and violence has never been the solution to any issue”, the youth body of the Congress said, while adding that is a matter of  concern that young boys are joining the flock of black sheep.
The MPYC also said that there is a need to look into the causes of unrest and address the situation from the roots. . “Each and everyone ha s to decide that it is not in the interest of everyone to have the unrest to continue”, MPYC pointed out.
According to MPYC, as long as there is  sympathetic ears from the masses towards the militants, militancy cannot be eradicated.
“ Everyone should condemn the killings and kidnappings happening  in Garo Hills.”
“We don’t want our future generation to grow up with fear.”
“We should be on the path towards development and progress, bringing all the dropouts on the straight  paths to become  productive members of society”, MPYC added.
