Penalty for use of banned fireworks
Shillong: Acting on reports that smuggled firework products of foreign origin are being used in India, the Joint Secretary, Home (Police) Department, Meghalaya, has informed that stringent action as per law will be initiated against anybody found dealing in banned firework products.
The district and police authorities have been directed to keep a strict watch so that the illegal fireworks are not smuggled, stored or marketed anywhere in the State. People have also been advised to be vigilant while purchasing fireworks as possession of illegal or smuggled fireworks may attract legal action, the order stated.
Despite efforts being made by the Central and State governments, fireworks have been smuggled illegally into India under false declaration through various Indian ports.
Most of the fireworks smuggled into India contain Potassium Chlorate, a dangerous and hazardous chemical. Manufacture, possession or use of any explosive consisting of or containing sulphur in mixture with any chlorate is banned in the country.
Two bodies recovered in city
Shillong: Body of an identified female was recovered from a house at Jail Road on Tuesday.
Police sources informed that the post mortem will be carried out on Wednesday at Shillong Civil Hospital.
In another case, a male body was found at a shed behind Asom Kristi Kendra Hall at Dhankheti, Shillong. After conducting all legal formalities, the body was shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital morgue for identification.
The body has been identified as that of one Nirmal (35-40 years) and was wearing a green jacket, light green shirt and blue T-shirt.
Police have requested relatives of the deceased to contact Laitumkhrah PS on 0364-2223069 or PCR, Shillong on 0364-2222277 to collect the body.
Kala Utsav conducted in Meghalaya
Shillong: To promote living traditional art forms and culture of the different regions of the country, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, through the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), conducted a series of competitions titled Kala Utsav for Secondary and Higher Secondary students in all the states of India.
As part of the Kala Utsav, RMSA, Meghalaya, conducted regional competitions at Shillong, Tura, Baghmara and Jaintia Hills, to select students for the State-level finals to be held in Shillong on November 9-10.
The selected students from the State-level contest will be nominated for the national level competitions to be held in Delhi in December or January next.
HANM threatens Govt
SHILLONG: The HANM has threatened to stage a black flag protest and march to the Main Secretariat over the Government’s delay in taking action on the Mookhep firing incident.
The deadline to submit the probe report ended on October 31.
The HANM alleged that the government was hiding the truth which has led to the delay in the inquiry report.
“As the government was swift to act on the dual posts bill, it should have been prompt in the Mookhep report as well,” Suchen said.
Woman duped in city
SHILLONG: A woman lodged a complaint that she had received a phone call from a person Abhishek Mishra, claiming to be SBI, Bank Manager, asking for her ATM details which she provided. Later, she received a text message that Rs.15,500 has been debited from her account.
In another case, two persons – Ajit Kumar and Md. Arfan Khan – allegedly took Rs.12,000 from one Sandeep Singh promising a job in return but duped him. The victim filed a complaint on Monday.
