SHILLONG: Students who want to join English & Foreign Languages University (EFLU) are facing difficulties due to the limited test centres among other grievances.
Besides the main institute at Hyderabad, the off campuses of the University are located in Shillong and Lucknow.
The University admits students on the basis of a common All India Admission Test.
Sources said that due to the limited test centres in the North East and southern states, the aspirants who are poor and disadvantaged, are finding it difficult to go to distant test centres for admission tests.
This results in the denial of chance to study in the prestigious University.
When contacted, an official with EFLU, Shillong admitted that since last year, the test centres were reduced and added that it was up to the concerned authorities to address the issue.
Though there is allegation on the admission process of EFLU that it does not publish the names of candidates who are in the waiting list along with the main list of those who get admission, the official, however, said that it was unfounded since the entire list is published in the website.
There were allegations that the supplementary admissions are carried out from the undisclosed waiting list internally by the University authorities under extraneous considerations, which, however, was denied by the official.
Sources also pointed out that while the University prevents students to migrate from one campus to another necessitated by geographical advantages or conveniences and considering academic atmosphere beneficial to the students admitted under all India common admission tests for all the campuses.
The staff faculty enjoy inter campus free migration transfers.
Sources also alleged that the denial of migration of campuses will force the students to be in their respective campuses of Shillong and Lucknow perennially without getting the much needed exposure.
The official with EFLU Shillong said that migration is not allowed as per the Ordinance based on which the University was set up.
However, the affected students have sought the intervention of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) in this regard.
