Gabriel quits as MDC, MIDC vice-chairman

NONGSTOIN: Four candidates are in fray to contest the November 21 Nongstoin by-poll after UDP candidate Mosklandar Marngar filed his nomination on the last day on Wednesday.
Marngar told reporters after filing his nominations that education will be his priority as till date Nongstoin does not have better educational institutions to support the students.
Besides he will also focus on agriculture.
Others who are in the fray include Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang, Independent Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait and HSPDP nominee Dios Jyndiang,
While the scrutiny of nominations will be held on Thursday, the last day for withdrawal of candidature is on November 7.
Meanwhile, the Congress candidate Gabriel resigned from the posts of MDC and Vice Chairman of  Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Wahlang said he tendered his resignation as a nominated MDC on November 2 to the Chairman of the KHADC, Manstudy Nongrem, while as a Vice Chairman of MIDC to the Chief Minister on the same day.
Meanwhile, All India Mahila Congress General Secretary Mrs Jarjum Ete along with the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress President Mrs Joplyn Shylla and other Mahila Congress functionaries attended an election meeting in Nongstoin to campaign for the Party candidate Shri Gabriel Wahlang on Wednesday.
Boost to UDP  : In another development, ahead of the by poll, Congress leader and President of Mawkawah primary unit of the party Blassing Marngar along with his supporters joined UDP.  Blassing will support his nephew and UDP candidate Moslandar Marngarm.
