NONGSTOIN: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate Brensly Ryntathiang could not file his nomination on Wednesday since he did not have the required security deposit.
Other candidates, who came to the office of the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner at Nongstoin came across a person strolling around alone with a polythene bag dangling by his side.
Later he was identified Brensly Ryntathiang, the official nominee of LJP.
Brensly moved around the DC’s Office with a hope that someone would give him Rs 5000, the security deposit for filing nominations. In despair, Brensly had even approached the Deputy Commissioner for the money.
However, the DC cum District Election Officer S Kharlyngdoh expressed his helplessness as giving him the amount would mean the violation of the model code of conduct.
Distraught, Brensly told The Shillong Times that he along with some of his friends met the state leader of LJP leader in Shillong on Tuesday for the security deposit, but the LJP leader wanted him to prove how many supporters he would have with him. Brensly had also approached other candidates for the amount, but in vain.
Brensly said he would have secured a decent number of votes if he had contested the election.
Brensly, who is unemployed, had earlier contested unsuccessfully from erstwhile Mawthengkut constituency under BJP in 2003.
