Abducted victim left tied to a tree; extortionist lynched

TURA: In a bizarre incident, a kidnapped teenager was rescued by North Garo Hills Police after finding him bruised and in a semi-unconscious state, tied to a banana tree in Bajengdoba on Thursday afternoon.
The 17-year-old boy, identified as Md. Allauddin Islam, is a resident of Bheldar ghat under Krishnai police station of Goalpara district. He had gone missing on October 30 and a missing report was filed by the family at Agia police station of Goalpara.
On Thursday, villagers informed Bajengdoba police about the presence of a young boy tied to a banana tree on a hill top at Line Ading area of Bajengdoba.
When police arrived on the spot they found him tied to the tree, severely dehydrated, bruised and half-conscious. He was taken to Bajengdoba health centre for treatment from where his relatives took him to Goalpara hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, villagers in Sibbari area of South Garo Hills have lynched an alleged extortionist who had demanded money from them and also from a church body on Wednesday night.
Villagers from Bamongre, Waksolgre and Somegre caught hold of the alleged extortionist Jeet M Sangma of Darokgre village while he was trying to extort money from two villagers and a religious congregation at around 9:30 PM in Bamongre village.
When the villagers surrounded him he reportedly whipped out a pistol threatening to shoot them. The angry villagers refused to be cowed down and instead lunged at him and gave him a sound trashing resulting in his death. A Chinese made carbine weapon with two magazines and 7mm ammunition was recovered from the deceased and handed over to police.
In another incident, suspected GNLA militants belonging to the Hedio Momin command have reportedly kidnapped a villager from Daronggre area of Gambegre-Kherapara region on Wednesday night.
