SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, a father allegedly strangulated his two minor sons and later committed suicide at Mawlai.
Police said they recovered the body of Benedik Kharmuti (38) on Wednesday night hanging from a tree and the bodies of his two minor sons – aged 4years and 14 months – from a jungle at Mawsiatkhnam under Mawlai.
It is suspected that the father strangulated his two sons and later hanged himself. Necessary formalities were observed and matter is under inquiry.
When contacted, police said they were investigating into the matter to ascertain the reason behind the father’s actions and added that a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also sent to the spot to collect samples and assist in the investigation process.
