JOWAI: A minor girl brought by a man from Myanmar was rescued and forwarded to the Child Welfare Committee, Jowai and kept in shelter home on Friday.
The accused was also arrested on suspicion of child trafficking along the Indo-Myanmar border.
It was on Friday night that the police at Ummolong noticed that some commotion was taking place at an eatery at Khliehtryshi.
On arrival, they found that one Solomon Ram Penga(40) from Myanmar coming from Burma to Nagaland brought a 13 year old girl from the same country in a Tata Sumo.
The co-passengers including some Assam Rifles personnel noticed that the girl was disturbed, and after interacting with her, they could learn that the girl was assaulted and was forcibly taken by the man to Nagaland. The Assam Rifles personnel confronted Solomon and the latter was also assaulted with the allegation of child trafficking.
As per the statement of Solomon, he had gone to the girl’s house in Yangon, Myanmar on October 31 where he met the girl’s father who agreed to send her to Dr. Sanchu at Aizawl for vocational classes and to work as a maid and thereafter on November 2, he left Myanmar with the girl to Aizawl. However, as per the girl’s statement, it has come to light that Solomon had been to her house at Yangon and convinced her parents to allow her to go with him to Nagaland where he will admit her in a good school and meet all the expenses, and her parents agreed to this.
Police based on the statement of the victim said that on November 3 while halting for the night in a hotel room booked by Solomon at Niyuidin Hotel, Kalei Myo, Myanmar, he tried to rape her but it was unsuccessful as she fiercely fought against him and left the room . Again on November 5, Solomon tried to abuse her in another hotel room, but in vain, but later he tried to molest her on the way from Aizawl to Shillong which compelled the co- passengers at Jowai to react and subsequently she was rescued with the intervention of the police.
