Man shot dead in UP
Kanpur: A 38-year-old man was shot dead in the ruarl areas of Sajeti in Ghatampur locality by two motorbike-borne youths, police said on Monday. Bhanu Pratap alias Avdhesh Kori, a former village head and a resident of Kroiagawan in Sajeti, was first beaten with lathis and then shot dead by two unidentified youths last night when he was sitting on a platform in his muhalla, Rural SP Surendra Tiwari said. He said that the two assailants fled the scene after killing Bhanu Pratap. Sajeti police station inspector said that a case of conspiracy and murder has been registered against Rambabu, Ram Kumar, Babu and Paggal of the same village on the basis of complaint filed by the family members of the deceased. Police said that the killing appears to be the result of old enmity and police are conducting raids to nab the accused. He said that heavy police deployment has been made in the village in view of the tensions that prevails after the murder. (PTI)
Two-and-a-half-year old deaf-mute girl raped in Rajasthan
Jaipur: A two-and-a-half-year deaf and mute girl was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man in Bhilwara following which the accused was arrested, the police said on Monday. The accused identified as Shivnath (30) was arrested yesterday, Station House Officer of Bheemganj police station Hanuman Singh Choudhary told PTI over telephone. Shivnath was produced in a court this forenoon that sent him to a 14-day judicial custody, the SHO said. A case under various sections of IPC including 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered against him, he said. The victim girl was first sent to a local hospital which referred him to Ajmer’s JLN Hospital, he said. Toddler was sleeping with her parents under tin shade in the campus of the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara when the accused allegedly lifted her and took her to a place near the mortuary in the wee hours yesterday and allegedly raped her there, he said. After committing the alleged crime he slept on the cemented platform there leaving the toddler on the ground, the SHO said. Parents are said to be labourer and had come to visit one of their ailing relatives in the hospital on Saturday, he said. When they wake up in the morning they found that their daughter was missing and informed the police chowki, he said, adding the cops searched the girl from near the mortuary. Most unfortunate situation was that the victim girl was deaf and dumb, quoting parents SHO said. (PTI)
Govt approves Rs 1,100 cr disaster relief fund for K’taka, Guj
New Delhi: Government on Monday approved Rs 1,100 crore funds under the National Disaster Relief Fund for Karnataka and Gujarat, which recently faced drought and floods respectively. A high-level meeting for Central assistance to states affected by natural disasters was held in this regard here under the chairmanship of Home Minister Rajnath and attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya, Agriculture Minister Sanjeev Balyan, his Secretary Siraj Hussain and other senior officials. “The Committee examined the proposals based on the report of the central team that visited the affected states hit by severe natural disasters. It approved the assistance from the NDRF in respect of Karnataka to the tune of Rs 1,540 crore and for Gujarat an amount of Rs 562 crore regarding the losses caused by drought and flood respectively,” a Home Ministry statement said. Policeman dies under mysterious circumstances in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A police head constable on Monday died under suspicious circumstances at Telangana police armed reserve (AR) headquarters here.Khaja Moinuddin was found dead at AR headquarters in Amberpet. Police were examining the cause of his death.According to police, the guards on duty at the premises heard gunfire sound from Moinuddin’s room. They found him lying in a pool of blood.Since it was a self loading rifle (SLR) and only one round was fired, police suspect the constable might have committed suicide.If the SLR accidentally goes off, it completely gets emptied, source said.Senior officers visited the spot and ordered a probe. Police were analysing his call data to gather details about his last conversation over phone.The man belonged to Nalgonda district of Telangana. He met with a road accident a few years back, and was reportedly not in good health. (IANS)
