SHILLONG: Synod College, Shillong, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year and in the run up to the celebrations, the College organised a national seminar on ‘Women and Religion in India: Status and Quest for Liberation’ on Friday.
While speaking on the topic, Prof. P. Shukla, former NEHU Vice Chancellor, said, “Women face discrimination and harassment even in a developed country like the United States of America.”
He said that he holds every religion in high regard on the basis that religion helps to bring in peace, but he questioned the intolerance prevailing in the society.
Prof. Shukla also released a book ‘Understanding Religion, A Panoramic View’, which contains contents of the National Seminar held on October 19, 2013.
The College choir enthralled the audience with their songs.
