TURA: A former GNLA cadre identified as Asong Marak who hails from Tura town was intercepted by Bajengdoba police in North Garo Hills on Friday while travelling in a vehicle and taken into custody after police recovered a pistol with five rounds of ammunition from his possession.
On being interrogated he revealed that another cadre was staying in his house at Rongkhon, Tura. Police then raided the site during the night and arrested the cadre identified as Henush G Momin (35) of Boldamgre village in Ampati region.
Both arrested men were part of a group that had been involved in extortion and several kidnapping cases in and around Tura town and other parts of Garo Hills. The members of the gang reportedly demanded money from a large number of people from the town in the last couple of months.
