Guwahati: Prayers were on Saturday offered for eternal peace of victims of Paris terror attacks at Majuli, the largest inhabited freshwater island, in Jorhat in eastern Assam by visiting foreign tourists.
Reports from Majuli said tourists from different countries came together at Aunihati Satra (Vaishnavite monastery) this morning and offered prayers for the victims and their families who died last night in Paris.
They lit earthen lamps and incense sticks at the prayer hall of the monastery.
Condemning the attacks in strongest terms, the foreign tourists said such acts of violence only lead to misery and serve no purpose in reality.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi condemned the Paris attack where several innocent people fell prey to the hands of the attackers.
In a statement here, Mr Gogoi said, “It is an attack on humanity and everybody needs to join hands to fight against these forces”. (UNI)
