Laitlum- an emerging tourist hub under human onslaught

SHILLONG: Laitlum village, around 25 kilometers from Shillong, is currently one of the most talked about tourist places in Shillong due to its panoramic picturesque setting. The place is thronged by thousands of tourists but however, the Laitlum canyons still lack some basic infrastructure which would definitely give a flip to the tourist spot.
The beauty of Laitlum canyons has not escaped the eyes of Bollywood as Rock on 2 is being shot here with the cast seen clicking selfies in the picturesque canyons.
However, a visit to Laitlum makes it obvious that the place requires some basic infrastructure which would further make it more mesmerizing.
Some tourists who thronged the place recently said that Laitlum is surely one of the best tourist destinations in the region but the  road to the tourist spot should be improved.
“The road till Smit village is fantastic but the road after the village becomes bad- full of dust and potholes and if the road is improved, people visiting there would have no complaints,” a tourist from Assam said.
Every visitor to  who visited the area is greeted with a majestic view of the grassy valleys and tiny hamlet called Rasong, which lies deep below the sheer gorge amidst nature’s lust greenery grandeur in all its beauty.
Some people who frequent the area said that the tourist spot also deserves a good parking facility and even the approach road to the spot is yet to be black-topped as it creates problem for the   people who drive their cars and bikes inside the place.
In addition, the place, which gives a loud and clear message about nature’s beauty, is bearing the brunt of human onslaught as many people who visit the place often throw all kinds of trash like bottles and wrappers without any consideration for the tourist spot.
A person looking after the tourist spot said they clean the entire tourist spot every morning but people often keep throwing such trash much to the unhappiness
