SHILLONG: Four ‘civilian’ cadres of GNLA were arrested by police during the early morning operations carried out at Chandmari area of Tura town on Tuesday.
According to police, these cadres were recruited by self-styled commander in chief of GNLA Sohan D Shira for arms smuggling from Dimapur for the militant outfit.
The arms smuggling gang was supposed to proceeded to Dimapur for bringing weapons and ammunition to GNLA
They have been identified as Nobin D Sangma (64), a resident of Nidanpur, near Tikrikilla, Peirai Hao (40) resident of Perin district of Nagaland, Livingstone Ch Marak (28) from Williamnagar and Balgranj R Marak (24) from Nengmandal, Williamnagar.
Police recovered 12 rounds of AK ammunition, one GNLA demand note, and Rs 1,50,000 from them.
Police said that Peirai Hao who is from NSCN (K) was recently released on bail from Tura jail.
Hao is the main linkman to negotiate and arrange arms from NSCN factions to GNLA, police said, while adding that Nobin, along with his wife and others, go to Nagaland as family members and smuggle weapons in the personal car of Nobin.
Police neither suspected nor checked the vehicle when he was travelling with the family, Nobin told the interrogators.
“They always took families along to Dimapur for bringing weapons. Nobin has also confessed that three days ago, he and his wife brought two AK rifles from Dimapur and delivered them to Sohan”, police said.
Nobin also disclosed that many Naga militants sell arms and ammunition from Dimapur. “One has to know the right persons in Dimapur and even rocket launchers are also available in Dimapur”, police quoted Nobin as saying.
