SHILLONG: UDP leader Donkupar Roy has criticized the Congress led MUA II government for its failure on all fronts.
While taking part in an election rally at Nongstoin on Tuesday, the UDP president lamented on the failures of the government on all accounts of governance.
According to Roy, the recent High Court order on AFPSA was a clear indicator of the failures of the State government.
While stating that there is lack of sensitivity on the part of the government towards the people of the State, Roy pointed out that the mass movement by traditional heads to demand the resignation of the current Cabinet is a pointer in this regard.
Roy, who is also the Opposition Leader, apprised the meeting that the electorate of Nongstoin should be alive to the current situation in State politics “where a win to the Congress will only embolden the current dispensation to further make attempts to trample on the rights” of the people .
According to Roy, Independent candidate Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait was a good lawyer but it was more important that a legislator knows his or her constituency well.
The UDP leader said that when he was the chief minister, he had met the current UDP candidate, Mosklander Marngar, who was then the leader of West Khasi Hills Students’ Union.
Roy said he was impressed at Marngar’s ability to address the plight of the people of West Khasi Hills and his oratory skill besides his commitment to the cause of West Khasi Hills, which rightly makes him a suitable legislator.
The meeting was also addressed by UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh and MDC Teinwell Dkhar besides other party leaders.
