SHILLONG: UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh has questioned claims that Meghalaya boasted a strong fiscal health.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inauguration of the regional office of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the UDP MLA said all was not well in Meghalaya and termed the State as ‘ailing’.
He also slammed a statement of the chief minister where he had stated that Meghalaya would   contribute to national development in 6-7 years, saying that the statement was preposterous.
Referring to the statement of Union Minister of State for Finance, Jayant Sinha, where he had lauded the State government for its GDP growth, the UDP legislator said there was no growth in Meghalaya.
“Where is the growth happening in Meghalaya?” he questioned, while stating that Meghalaya had 2 per cent growth in agriculture whereas Mizoram and Sikkim were doing far better. There is no growth in job creation nor is there any money in all the Government departments, he added.
“UDP will not stand by the statement as Meghalaya is in a messy situation and we are on the verge of collapse,” he added.
