TURA: Garo Graduates’ Union (GGU), 12th Executive Committee meeting was held recently at the GGU Secondary School premises in Tura in which resolutions concerning separate issues in Garo Hills were taken.
Among the resolutions taken by the GGU in the meeting was to strongly condemn the HC’s move of directing the Centre to enforce AFSPA in Garo Hills.
According to GGU, the act was not needed at present to contain the situation arising from militancy.
It also resolved to demand along with the A’chik Literature Society (ALS), the inclusion of the Garo Language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Meanwhile, other burning issues concerning the current law and order situation in Garo Hills would also be taken up at its Annual General Conference to be held at Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School Hall on December 5.
“The theme picked for the general conference is ‘Garo Customary Law in Modern Age’ in which retired IAS, Arlene M.N. Sangma, as a resource person will speak on the topic,” J.P.K. Marak, the President of GGU informed.
