Nongstoin by election

NONGSTOIN: Campaigning for the Nongstoin by poll ended on Thursday but not before candidates engaged in a plethora of mass public meetings and house-to-house campaigns to woo voters for the November 21 polls.
Congress leaders fanned out to various corners of Nongstoin to seek votes with senior leaders campaigning at Iai Lyngdoh, Laitkseh and Marngor areas. Both the Congress and HSPDP took to verbal slugfest to woo voters with each claiming to get the better of the other.
“We hope that Gabriel and the Congress will create history on November 24” said a confident Mawphlang MLA Kennedy Khyriem.
Other Congress leaders promised to bring development to the constituency and repair the pathetic roads in different areas in Nongstoin, a claim which was scoffed at by HSPDP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, which questioned the sincerity of the Congress leaders.
Independent candidate Fenela L Nonglait said people of Nongstoin needed a change and a new leader with the capacity to lead the people, especially the young minds, towards a better future.
She also said her commitment was to strive for the rights of the indigenous people of the State and the district.
HSPDP leaders Basaiawmoit, P.S. Syiem, K.P. Pangniang and Witting Mawsor and party candidate Diosstarness Jyndiang held a separate election campaign at Taxi Stand, Nongbah and highlighted the aims and objectives of the party.
They sought support from the public and blamed the Congress government under the leadership of Mukul Sangma as being irresponsible and uncaring for the people of Hynniewtrep and the State as a whole.
