JOWAI: Members of the Public Account Committee (PAC) of the State Assembly inspected the Raliang Water Supply Project in Jaintia Hills on Thursday.
A team comprising legislators Paul Lyngdoh, Hopeful Bamon, Bluebell Sangma and Comingone Ymbon, Addl. Chief Engineer T.R. Talukdar and SDO PHE Jowai Paul Synnah inspected the project.
Speaking to media persons at Raliang, PAC Chairman Paul Lyngdoh said their visit to Raliang was to inspect the water supply scheme aimed at benefitting 30 villages in the area.
According to Lyngdoh, the project was targeted for completion by 2016; but now a new deadline of March, 2017, has been fixed.
Lyngdoh explained that the delay was due to the weather condition in the State.
“The progress of work is not up to the mark as even the drawing estimate has not been submitted to the Chief Engineers. The PAC has directed the concerned officer to submit the drawing estimate within a week,” Lyngdoh said.
The water supply scheme will provide 1.68 million litres of potable water to residents of 30 villages in the area. The total project cost of the scheme is Rs.21.56 crore which is sponsored by the Ministry of the DoNER under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources.
The scheme, christened the Greater Raliang Water Supply Scheme, was launched in 2011 by the then PHE Minister Prestone Tynsong.
