SHILLONG: A Good Samaritan, who did not wish his identity to be revealed, came to the rescue of a woman who was harassed by a city based school on Tuesday after she had failed to pay the school dues and her three children were barred from appearing the annual examination in the school.
The unidentified person, who had no links with the mother of three, handed over the required amount to her on Wednesday in the presence of Meena Kharkongor, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Right (SCPCR).
It may be mentioned that Maureen Syngai, Headmistress of Mayfair School, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, had prevented the three children from writing their examination after their mother was unable to clear the pending dues following which the woman approached the SCPCR chief.
Fortunately for the woman, help came from the most unexpected quarter. A person read the news in The Shillong Times and readily came forward to clear the dues, enabling the three children – studying in classes IV, VI and II – to sit for the examination.
Sources informed that the three pupils were pulled out from the School Assembly on Tuesday and were ordered to stand outside the gate.
Other parents who witnessed the sorry incident called up the mother and after reaching the place she was directed by another lady to approach the SCPCR Chairperson for help.
The SCPCR Chairperson, while reacting to the development on Wednesday, said, “I will send a directive to all the schools to look after the welfare of the children first.”
