Gorkha body demands 15 seats

Guwahati: The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) has decided to extend its support to any political party which field Gorkha candidates in 15 Gorkha-dominated constituencies in next year’s Assam Assembly elections.
Moreover, the political party which will endorse its demand for Gorkha Autonomous Council in Assam will get the support of the community in 65 other constituencies where Gorkhas are the deciding factor.
AAGSU president Prem Tamang said, “Any political party who gives Gorkha candidates in constituencies where the community forms the majority will get support from AAGSU and the Gorkhas of the state. Besides the Gorkha dominated constituencies, 35 lakh scattered Gorkhas are deciding factor in 65 constituencies of the state and the AAGSU will support the party there who endorse Gorkha Autonomus Council demand.”
The 15 LACs demanded for Gorkha candidates are Margheritha, Digboi, Sadiya, Sootea, Nawboicha, Behali, Borsola, Mazbat, Tamulpur, Sarupathar, Duliajan, Tezpur, Tingkhang, Rangapara and Gohpur. (UNI)
