Meeting discusses safety aspects of Expressway

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Pooja Pandey on Friday convened a meeting to discuss the safety aspects on the Umiam-Jorabat Expressway.
The meeting was attended by Chief Adviser to the State Govt. D.D. Lapang, Parliamentary Secretary C. Lyngdoh, Dy. SP of Ri Bhoi, DTO, Nongpoh, officials of NHAI and ILFS, and members of the Truck Owners’ Association of Jaintia Hills, Sumo Association of Nongpoh and Auto Association of Nongpoh.
The meeting discussed the need for more opening divider medians at Byrnihat, Nongpoh, Umnget, Umran Diary and Sohbhala Nongthymmai.
Drivers were advised to follow the traffic rules and the Traffic department was asked to ensure that action is taken against those who do not follow the traffic rules.
The NHAI & ILFS were asked to erect signboards or hoarding on safety traffic rules on both sides of the Expressway besides demanding construction of over bridges and footbridges in the busy junction at Nongpoh.
The meeting further suggested formation of a GS Road Safety Committee with the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner as its convener.
