Nov 5 rioting: Arrest of youth condemned

SHILLONG: Seng Kynthei, Seng Samla of Lawsohtun, KSU Lawsohtun unit and residents of the locality have expressed their resentment towards the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Bri Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) and the Dorbar Shnong of Lawsohtun, for being mute spectators to the recent arrests of youths of the locality in connection with the rioting on November 5 during the public rally called by headmen on issues related to VAB.
A joint statement in this regard, issued on Friday, claimed that some of the arrested youths were not involved in the riot.
The statement also condemned the random arrests made by the police in the middle of the night which has led to a situation where others live in fear.
Random arrest of youths in connection with the November 5 riot should be stopped and the SNSBH along with the Dorbar Shnong must take responsibility for any further arrest, the statement added.
