Meghalaya Agrovet Poultry Farm gets green signal

NONGPOH: Meghalaya Agrovet Poultry Farm at Mawthei got the green signal from the RBYF and can now start functioning as the farm has met with the demand of the organization to install a mechanism to control the flow of waste product into Umtrew river which is the source of drinking water for Umsning area, president of the organization Bipul Thangkhiew said.
Following huge protest and opposition from the general public and leaders of the Dorbar Shnong, especially from Umsning area against the Meghalaya Agrovet Poultry Farm since its commencement at Mawthei against its unhygienic functions and discharge of waste product and feces to the Umtrew River, the company has come up with more mechanism and technology to meet the demand of the Rangbah Shnong and all those who were against the company.
The Meghalaya Agrovet Poultry Farm had been opposed by sections of the society and had once been under lock and key following its failure to meet the demand of the Rangbah Shnong of Umsning area.
However, on Saturday during the inspection conducted by the RBYF central body, had   founded that the farm management had completed with the installation of Bio-Gas digester plant, Mixer, Secretion unit and Soak pit of 3-4 meter along with the slouch which are the technologies to control waste flow to the drinking water source meant for Umsning areas.
The inspection led by RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew, vice president L.K Sawkmie, August Sten, secretary along with other leaders of the organization inspected the farm at Mawthei following their demands from the poultry farm on regard for installation of the sewage treatment plants to prevent open defecation of waste through drinking water source.
Thangkhiew said that, the RBYF had not opposed the farm from the beginning since the director of the farm Bhalang Phanbuh had done enough for the welfare of the people of the area by providing employment opportunity and also for the upliftment of the area through his entrepreneurship, but the organization had taken a stand for opposing the Meghalaya Agrovet on regard with the open releasing of waste to the drinking    water sources and river.
“After receiving the message from the farm over the completion of the technology, the organization conducted a spot inspection to verify whether the management of the farm had really come up with any kind of technology in preventing the open disposing of waste and during the inspection the leaders founded that the company had done its best in installing innovative technology to prevent the same”, Thangkhiew said.
While briefing over the functioning of the technology installed at Mawthei poultry farm, Thangkhiew said that, the Biogas digester plant while operating with other mechanism such as Mixer, Secretion unit and Soak pit can destroy and killed over 90 to 93 harmful pathogen which will be digested by the biogas system, adding that through the technology, the farm can be benefited from the biogas and fertilizers which can be generated through the plant.
Thangkhiew also concluded that, though the poultry farm can now be operated, the organization will inspect the farm after 160 days for verification.
