SHILLONG: Shillong-Dawki road which is one of the important roads in the state since the road connects directly to Bangladesh is in shambles.
A visit to the road reveals the condition of the road is not at all satisfactory as it is full of potholes. The road is narrow and treacherous with deep gorges and certainly needs to be improved in view of the fact that the Dhaka-Guwahati bus has started operating on the route carrying many passengers. “The road is scenic, but I feel that it should be expanded for safety of vehicles plying on the road,” a tourist said.
When contacted, officials from the PWD (National Highway), said the Government intends to construct two lane road from Umshyrpri river till Dawki under JICA. “Survey and technical alignment is going on for the proposed project and then we will prepare the detailed project report for the sanctioning of the project,” the official said.
