Shillong: On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the Regional Technical Training Centre (RTTC), Department of Community Medicine, NEIGRIHMS under project HIFAZAT of Global Fund Round 9, HIV-IDU Grant, is conducting a three-day refreshers’ training from December 1-3 at NEIGRIHMS for doctors, nurses and counselors on Harm Reduction of Injecting Drug in Targeted Intervention Sites for the State AIDS Control Society of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The training focused on effects of drugs and harms associated with drug use, Female IDUs and Female partners of Male IDUs, co-morbid conditions among IDUs, Drug Treatment and Opioid Substitution Therapy as well as the relationship of Injecting Drug Use and HIV/AIDS.
The training was inaugurated by David T. Umdor, Deputy Director (Admin), NEIGRIHMS, in presence of Prof. A.C. Phukan, Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS and Rebina Subba, Programme Officer, NACO-NERO, the faculty of Department of Community Medicine and the RTTC staff on Tuesday.
The International AIDS Day was also observed by Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya with an awareness rally organized by MGU students.
Around 100 students followed by faculty members actively participated in the rally.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in collaboration with the District Administration, North Garo Hills, also observed World HIV/AIDS Day at the SGSY Hall Development Block, Resubelpara, where hundreds of participants participated from all across the district.
Among those who spoke during the programme included North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner S.C. Sadhu, Addl. DC L. Ch Marak, DSWO M.D. Arengh, former Chairperson, Meghalaya State Women Commission, S.K. Marak and DLSA member S. Marak.
