SHILLONG: William Carey University’s 2nd convocation was held on Wednesday where 23 students were conferred the Master of Arts degree in Education, Environmental Management, Sociology, Social Work, English and Political Science; while 3 students were conferred Diploma degrees in Integrated Research Programmes.
In his address the Chief Guest, D. D. Lapang, Chief Advisor to the Government of Meghalaya invoked the life history of William Carey and his life from being a humble cobbler to the status of an innovator and achiever.
“I have full faith that William Carey University will shine and grow in the future”, he said.
Invoking the Four Visions of the Integrated University; namely academic, economic, environmental and socio-cultural developments of students, Lapang expressed confidence that the University would prove to be a ‘University with a Difference’.
He urged upon the graduates to strive ahead in order to make this world a better place to live.”
Dare to dream. Be an asset, not a liability. Be a leader, not the follower. Be a front runner, and not the back bencher. Be somebody, someday, somewhere” he said.
Dr. Ken Gnanakan, Chancellor of the University, meanwhile spoke about the need for provision of integrated learning and emphasized on the necessity of an education that grounds its feet on reality.
