Governor condoles demise
of ex-Governor Lt Gen Nayar
Kohima: Governor P B Acharya expressed sadness on the demise of Lt. Gen. V K Nayar (Retd), the former Governor of Nagaland, who passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. In a condolence message here, Mr Acharya said late Lt Gen V K Nayar (Retd.) served as Governor as additional charge from October 2, 1993 toAugust 4,.1994.  During his tenure, as Governor of Manipur in 1993, when the State was torn apart by insurgencies and ethnic clashes, it was to Lt Gen Nayar?s credit that he firmly brought the situation under control. His contributions towards the society will be remembered for ever. In his message to the son of Gen. Nayar, Mr Acharya said “Please accept my condolences on the demise of your father. It was an honour to have known such a great person and we will truly miss him. The Governor wished that May God embrace you in comfort during this difficult time.” (UNI)
Estonia team meets
Nagaland Chief Minister
Kohima: A Estonian team had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Nagaland along with his Cabinet members at CMO on Wednesday. The team led by Dr Liia Hannie, senior expert on e-Democracy and three other presented power point presentation to highlight and share their experience on e-Governance. Dr Liia said that e-Governance is a tool to modernise society and she wishes that the state will soon be called an e-Nagaland state. The other team members also highlighted different topics on e- Governance like its concepts, governance for people, transparency, electronic identification & digital signing etc. The CN congratulated the visiting team for the powerful power point presentation, he also assured the team they will follow up with the e-governance concept to be implemented in Nagaland through the IT department.  He further added that the members will try to educate the citizen of Nagaland about the importance of e-Governance and if possible adopt a similar module in future. 106 gram heroin seized in Aizawl
Aizawl: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department on Wednesday seized 106 grams of heroin in Aizawl, department’s spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said. Zohmingthanga said two women – Rosie R. Ralte (29) of Aizawl and Gingoniangi (35) of Khawmawi hamlet from neighbouring Myanmar were arrested on charge of possession of the drug. The contraband was worth around Rs four lakh in the local market, he said. The accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, he added. (PTI)
Four poachers held in Assam
Guwahati: Four poachers, involved in rhino killing in Kaziranga National Park, were arrested and arms and ammunition recovered from them in Bokakhat in Golaghat district of Assam by Special Task Force on Wednesday. Local reports said the STF personnel made the arrests during an operation based on specific information. The four arrested persons were involved in recent rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga. Two rifles and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. (UNI)
Arunachal governor stuck in lift
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa was stuck in a lift inside Raj Bhawan for about three minutes due to a power cut, prompting him to reprimand the state electricity department. According to a Raj Bhawan statement on Wednesday, “the governor was stuck for a dreaded period of three minutes without light and fan inside the lift, leading to suffocation”. “It was only after frantic calls by the personal security officer accompanying him that the power supply was restored following which he could come out on Monday,” it added.  Deprecating the episode, the statement said that if the governor “is subjected to such a state of affairs, one can imagine what will happen to the other citizens”.  Further, Rajkhowa on Tuesday pulled up the state power department for the erratic power supply in Arunachal Pradesh and asked it to take immediate steps to improve the situation, it said. He expressed hope that the power department would leave no stone unturned in removing the deficiencies in the power supply system on an urgent basis and improve its service, particularly to the general public, the statement added. Cash reward for information
on militants in Mizoram
Aizawl: Mizoram government on Wednesday announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh each for anyone giving information leading to the arrest of five militants of Manipur-based Hmar People’s Convention (Democrats) who were involved in the ambush of members of a state assembly committee on March 28. Three policemen were killed in the ambush of the team of the state legislature’s committee, an official statement of the state home department said. The militants are – Thanglawmvel, Rinsang and Lalrohuol all of them from Manipur and Lalchawimawia and Jacob, both from Mizoram. One of the leaders of the Hmar militants who ambushed the team of the assembly committee, Malsawmkima, who deserted the state armed police, was gunned down in an encounter with the police on May 8 inside Manipur. Reuben Lalrammawia, another militant involved in the ambush, was arrested on September 22 at Hmarkhawlien village in Assam while the commander of the group Lalbiakliana was nabbed inside Manipur on October 16. State Home Minister R. Lalzirliana said there could never be peace negotiations with the HPC (D) unless the latter returned all the weapons snatched from the policemen in the March 28 ambush. (PTI)
Adolescence Education Prog launched in Arunachal
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Wednesday launched the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) to mark the World AIDS Day here.
In order to promote holistic approach towards health among youth, the state government has partnered with UNESCO in implementing the AEP targeting students of Classes VIII and IX.
UNESCO is supporting the NGO ‘Centre for Catalyzing Change’ to integrate sustainable AEP within the education system of Arunachal Pradesh, an official statement said. (PTI)
