SHILLONG: The Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBH), a conglomerate of traditional heads (headmen), has sought the Centre’s intervention in expediting the passage of pending Village Administration Bills passed by KHADC and JHADC.
A delegation of SKNSKBH, which has been camping in the national capital for the last few days, met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday and submitted a memorandum.
Later in the day, the delegation, accompanied by Shillong MP Vincent Pala, also met Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary Home Ministry in-charge Northeast on the issue of passage of VAB.
The Synjuk during the meeting highlighted the purpose of the Village Administration Bills passed by the autonomous district councils of Khasi and Jaintia Hills in the context of governance at the village level to the Union Home Minister and other officials.
The VAB concerning Jaintia Hills though not forwarded by the Governor to the Union Ministry was also brought to the notice of the Minister as the same is yet to get the nod by the Governor.
According to the statement of the SKNSKBH, the Union Home Minister assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up in right earnest.
The delegation said that the Union Home Ministry was on the job and had sought the views of the Ministry of Law and Justice on the Bill passed by the KHADC.
The delegation comprised of Dr W Kharshiing, president of SKNSKBH , RL Blah, general secretary, Emlang Lytan, E G Kharbani, G G Laloo, S S Langi, E.L.Nongrang, Rangsan Sohmat (all members), along with VGK Kynta (advocate), E K Sutnga and Kynpham Kharlyngdoh.
