SHILLONG: In its bid to seek the cooperation of the general public to contain abductions in Garo Hills, North Garo Hills Police conducted a people’s contact programme to elicit public participation in prevention of crimes.
Many criminal gangs are operating in Damas, Damra, Dainadubi, Kharkutta and adjoining areas and people’s participation in prevention of crimes such as kidnappings, abductions and extortions by these petty criminal gangs is crucial for local police.
Meghalaya Police PRO G.H.P. Raju said outreach programmes by the police is aimed at addressing the issues such as trust deficit, confidence building and bridging the gap between people and the police at the grassroots level.
“We are confident that with these outreach initiatives by police functionaries at the cutting edge level will improve the security in these areas,” he said.
