Office of profit issue

SHILLONG: The post of Chief Adviser to the Government being held by DD Lapang will not come under the ambit of office of profit since the Prevention of Disqualification Act 1972 refers to ‘other offices’ which the legislators can hold, Deputy Chief  Minister in-charge law  Rowell Lyngdoh said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said that though the post ‘Chief Adviser’ was not clearly mentioned in the Act, this will come under the ambit of ‘any other office.
Earlier, the UDP youth wing had petitioned the Election Commission of India demanding disqualification of Lapang for holding dual post.
Later, the Election Commission wanted the UDP to take up the matter with the Meghalaya  Governor and subsequently , the UDP youth wing submitted a letter to the Governor demanding action.
