NGT likely to extend coal transportation deadline

SHILLONG: The NGT is inclined to grant further extension of time for transportation of extracted coal after the last deadline of coal transportation set by NGT expired on November 30.
The matter came up for hearing on Wednesday and the Supreme Court lawyer representing the state government Ranjan Mukherjee urged the tribunal to extend the payment of royalty till March 31 next year and the transportation of extracted coal till June 30.
Mukherjee said that NGT was inclined to extend the dates and an order in this regard would be issued by on December 14.
Mukherjee has also apprised NGT that the weighbridges were functioning without any hurdles for the transportation of coal.
The government counsel also assured NGT that action would be taken by the state government against any violators of NGT ban on coal mining imposed on April 14,2014.
