PM’s scheme gives self-employment to 6493 youths

SHILLONG: The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has self employed as many as 6493 persons in Meghalaya in the last three years.
The Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) was discontinued in 2007-08 and in 2008-09 a new scheme, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), was introduced. The new scheme was rolled out by merging the two schemes of PMRY and Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP).
As per statistics, 1037 were self employed during 2012-2013 and the number rose to 3680 in 2014-2015. As many as 1776 people have already been self employed for the 2015-2016 period.
