Foundation laid for new block of St. Anthony’s college

SHILLONG:  Foundation of a new Block for Commerce, Management and other post graduate courses of St Anthony’s College took place at a function on Thursday.
The new block, which is expected to be completed in two year’s time is being dedicated to the late Rev Douglas J Wollaston,S.D.B, the third principal of the College.
In his speech, as guest of honour, the Provincial of the Silchar Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Rev Fr George Maliekal spoke in glowing terms on Wollaston. He said, “Wollaston had miraculously saved the college at a point when it was about to close down.”
Speaking as chief guest, the joint secretary UGC, Guwahati office, Dr Mohammad  Arif,  underscored the vital importance of  education which he termed as “the key to nation building.”
He lauded St Anthony’s College for the yeoman service it is rendering in the field of education which is helping to  mould  young people for the good of the region and the country.
“By its noble work through education and its skilling of the youth, St Anthony’s College has contributed much to society and the country,” he said.
While  commending the college for having always been “in the forefront of creative and employable courses of study,  Dr Arif said “it is befitting that we dedicate this new building –  a sign or our growth   –  to the late Fr Wollaston a  great soul and visionary who made a big beginning in the life of St Anthony’s College.”
