Guwahati: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday launched the logo and mascot of the 12th South Asian Games to be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 6 to 16, 2016.
The logo and mascot was launched at a function held under the aegis of organizing committee of the Games in presence of Meghalaya’s sports minister Zenith Sangma among other dignitaries.
According to communiqué sent by sports ministry “The logo has eight petals representing the countries participating in the12th South Asian Ga es. The petals are seen to be moving in a clockwise direction showing the positive spirit of the games.”
The name of the Mascot for the Games is rhino calf, ‘Tikhor’. Tikhor is someone who is sharp, naughty, sporty and modern. He is all-rounder, active, energetic and popular among kids. The mascot draped in a red T-shirts, sky blue shorts and a prominent horn resembles a calf of the one-horned rhinoceros.
It has been designed by Anant Khasbardar of Kolhapur. Abhijeet Krishna of NIFT, Patna, designed the logo.
Tikhor is a popular character from the pages of Burhi Aair Sadhu (Grand Mother’s Tales), the first compilation of children folk stories by Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezboruah, a doyen of modern Assamese literature.
A popular number of late Dr Bhupen Hazarika — Ei prithivi ekhon krirangon, krira hol shantir prangon (The world is a field of sports and sports is a symbol of peace) — will be the title song of the event.
