NGT may extend transportation deadline

SHILLONG: The NGT will decide on a new deadline to pay the royalty for export of extracted coal after the last date for transportation of the extracted coal expires on December 17.
Supreme Court lawyer and Counsel for the State government, Ranjan Mukherjee, said over phone from Delhi on Monday that during the hearing on Monday, he had apprised the Tribunal on the need to extend the deadline for payment of royalty till March 31 next and the transportation of extracted coal till June 30.
The mater will be decided by NGT on December 17 when the matter will be taken up for hearing, Mukherjee said.
Around 47 lakh metric tonnes of extracted coal are yet to be transported after NGT banned rat hole mining in the State.
