SHILLONG: An under trial prisoner Bijay Chettri (24) escaped from custody while being taken for medical examination at Civil Hospital Shillong on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they have registered a case and inquiry was underway. Police also asserted that he would be arrested soon.
Minor killed as boundary wall collapses

SHILLONG: A minor boy died when a boundary wall collapsed burying the child underneath. The incident happened on Tuesday around 2 pm Mawiong, Umjapung, Shillong, when the boundary wall of their residential compound collapsed on her three-year-old son Elvin Lawriniang.
The minor was declared brought dead by by the medical officer of Dr. H. Gordon Robert Hospital, Jaiaw.
Three including drug peddler held

SHILLONG: Police have arrested three persons including a drug peddler from the city on Tuesday afternoon. Acting on inputs, police arrested two persons – Ebor Langstieh and Arwotki Shullai – from a Tata Nano at Wahthapbru, Shillong and seized one cigarette packet containing four wrapped papers containing an orange powder suspected to be heroin from their possession. Based on their interrogation, police later arrested the drug peddler identified as Damanlang Kyndiah.

SHILLONG: In a shocking incident reported in the city on Tuesday, one person attempted to commit suicide after pouring kerosene on his body with an intention to burn himself. The person, one Fernando Nongrum (25) of Lumdiengmet, Umpling, Shillong, quarreled with his wife in an inebriated condition and later poured kerosene on himself and put set himself on fire, sustaining 80 per cent burn injuries. He was shifted to Nazareth Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Labourer dies

SHILLONG: A labourer succumbed to his injuries after he fell off a ladder in the city on December 14. The labourer identified as Nirod Das (34) was repairing the roof of the Meghalaya Warehouse at Mawlai, Nongkwar, Shillong, when he fell down and sustained grievous injuries.  He was removed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
