TURA: The Meghalaya Government’s proposal to accommodate the cadres of the UALA at the Tura Youth Hostel is facing stiff opposition from the general public of surrounding areas.
The residents of Wadanang, Jangga, Allotgre and Niram A’ding got together at Wadanang Playground recently to strongly oppose the move of the state government and a memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner where several concerns were raised by the people.
The people recounted a time when the same building was used by the cadres of the now disbanded ANVC (B). During this period several anti-social activities took place. The people also alleged that there were cases where some officers, contractors and businessmen of the area received demand notes, SMSs and phone calls in the name of various banned militant outfits which later pointed to the involvement of some anti socials staying in the Youth Hostel. “Due to the improper use of the building it is now in a dilapidated and can be repaired to be used by the public for its meant purpose,” the people added.
Meanwhile, it has also been learnt through information that the people are not alone in their opposition and are fully being supported by the general public of Tura as a whole.
