SHILLONG: Two persons were killed and four others injured when a truck loaded with logs plunged into a river after crossing a weak bridge in West Garo Hills on Wednesday, a delayed report said.
According to police, on December 23 at around 9.30 am, one truck (AS-18C-3726) loaded with logs, driven by Badshah Sheikh plunged into a river, while crossing a weak wooden bridge at Rabhagre under Tikrikilla.
As a result, two occupants, Hasem Ali (32) and Hafizul Rahman (30) died on the spot, while the driver and three others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to Pedaldoba PHC. However, the driver of the truck fled away after medical treatment.
In a separate incident on December 25 at around 2 am, one motorcycle (AS-01BR-3224) ridden by Donjit Boro (23) met with an accident at Dainadubi near Nogor Bazar, North Garo Hills. As a result, the rider and Subrata Saha (26) sustained grievous injuries and were shifted to Dainadubi CHC and later referred to a hospital at Dudhnoi, where the attending medical officer declared them brought dead.
