2nd Shillong Midnight Festival on Dec 31st night

SHILLONG: As part of the New Year celebrations the State Government, through the department of Tourism, will host the second Shillong Midnight Festival (SMF) at Polo Parking Lot on the night of December 31.
After the resounding success of the first edition last year, 2015’s event is coming back bigger and better with a range of local musical numbers, exciting festival acts, dance and food in the heart of Shillong.
Like SMF 2014, this year’s event will also be themed around two important focus points, “Peace, Harmony & Progress” and “Keep Meghalaya Clean and Green in 2016”.
Gates will open at 7pm and entry is free to the mega-event which features an extended line-up of music – five bands, four DJs – and food courts that aim to promote fun and family-friendly atmosphere.
This edition of the festival will see Summersalt, Colours, Dosser’s Urge, Blue Temptations and Groove Revolution share the stage with a traditional drummers’ ensemble, the Megha Rockers dance troupe, DJs Rex and Favian, as well as the new disco sounds of Australian DJs Frankie and Karuna with their trap, hip hop and deep house music.
Special trusses will also be set up to create a lighted ambience over the entire venue. Besides the fields of music, culture and tradition, the festival will also bring in the best in lighting and sound systems, with giant LED screens showcasing messages from the public to tourists with emphasis on the SMF’s themes of a peaceful, clean and green Meghalaya.
“Shillong has always had its share of New Year’s eve festivities but the city came together in a way never seen before to usher in 2015 with celebrations at the first ever SMF. The idea behind the festival is to add to Meghalaya’s tourist potential and act as a confluence of local music, dance and food in the heart of the city and the state government has welcomed everyone to usher in the New Year in a spirit of peace and unity,” a release said here on Tuesday.
