Disappointed at the way Shibun was appointed, says former State BJP president
SHILLONG: Former president of the State BJP, Khlur Singh Lyngdoh has expressed disappointment over the manner in which Shibun Lyngdoh was elected as the new party president in Meghalaya.
K S Lyngdoh said BJP national spokesperson and Meghalaya in charge, Nalin Kohli should have met the state council members and presidents of the district committees before announcing Shibun Lyngdoh as the new state president.
“I am not against anyone being appointed as the new president but a proper election should have been conducted before electing the new president,” he said adding that the party members were taken by surprise over the announcement naming Shibun Lyngdoh as the new president.
He also expressed his surprise as to how Shibun Lyngdoh was elected as the new president without consulting the state leaders of the party.
“The name of Shibun Lyngdoh was never discussed for the post of new party president,” he claimed.
BJP leader from East Jaintia Hills Shibun Lyngdoh was appointed as the new president of the party on Saturday in place of Khlur Singh Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls for the Shillong seat. However, he garnered maximum votes in the urban constituencies of North Shillong (5165 votes) West Shillong (6591) South Shillong (10534) and Pynthorumkhrah (6984).
‘Won’t allow division
in party’
Meanwhile, BJP’s State general secretary, Dipayan Chakraborty claimed that there is no rift in the party and he personally would not allow the party to be divided.
Crying foul over the latest development, the state council members of the party have petitioned the central leadership demanding revocation of Lyngdoh’s nomination to the top post. A resolution adopted on Sunday and subsequently sent to various national leaders of BJP, termed Lyngdoh’s nomination as “a dictatorial act and unfair practice carried out by Nalin Kohli, incharge BJP Meghalaya with Mahesh Giri MP as observer and Ranjit Mazumdar, the BJP co-coordinator of Meghalaya.”
