SHILLONG: In what could be termed as a major decision, the State Cabinet on Thursday amended Rule 20 (B) of Meghalaya Service and Conduct Rules debarring anyone in the service, except previous sanctions, to hold office or membership in any community based organizations, associations and traditional bodies.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the file was pending before the Government for a long time.
He added that many of the Government employees become presidents and executive members in different associations and “when we invite them (the associations) for discussion we have to listen to our own employees.”
“How can the Government talk to its own employees as stakeholders? People in the Government must do their job for which they are paid,” Sangma asserted adding that the focus of the employees should be to serve the people.
Sangma, however, denied that the decision has been taken to discourage Government employees from becoming Rangbah Shnong.
Extension for DRC, Meghalaya House, Mumbai
Meanwhile, in another decision, the State Cabinet decided to extend the services of Deputy Resident Commissioner of Meghalaya House, Mumbai for another six months.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the post was lying vacant after the retirement of the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Meghalaya House, Mumbai on October 31.  The services of DRC, Meghalaya House, Mumbai has been extended from November 1, 2015.
