Songkristan Competition held at Nongalbibra

SHILLONG: The Nongalbibra Songkristan Organising Committee organised a Songkristan Competition at Nongalbibra on January 3. As many as 15 villages of Garo Hills took part in the mega competition.
This is the sixth time in a row that the Nongalbibra Songkristan Organising Committee organised the Songkristan Competition.
Chief Guest, Michael T. Sangma, Parliamentary Secretary, Meghalaya thanked the organisers and sponsors for organising such a mega event.
“Songkristan song and dance fills our heart and soul with the Christmas Spirit; it is indeed a great day for us because it is the birthday of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ who came to the earth to die for our sins. Let us preserve our indigenous culture and identity through these songs and dances also, which our forefathers have taught us,” he said.
Local MLA and co-sponsor, Rophul S. Marak, while stressing on the preservation of culture and identity said, “Songkristan song and dance was initiated by our forefathers to praise God in traditional way for Christ’s birth in Bethlehem”. He also thanked the organisers, sponsors, participants and audiences for making the competition successful by taking part in it.
As per the judges’ scores, Kolmesalgre Village of Williamnagar was adjudged the best group, second position went to Adigittim Village of Nongalbibra while Rangmalbadim Village of Williamnagar bagged the third prize. They received a cash prize of Rs. 40,000, 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.
Later, Local MLA donated a mortuary van to Nongalbibra Crematorium and Cemetery Society from his SRWP Scheme.
