SHILLONG:Former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong has urged the State Government to review its decision to debar its employees from holding office or membership in community-based organizations, associations and traditional bodies.
Lanong said that the decision to bar government employees from associating themselves with other organizations is uncalled for and a blow to the constitutional rights of the citizens.
Bindo also argued that government servants have over the years helped shape the society with their role in such organizations.
He advised the state government to retain the age-old practice of allowing government employees to hold posts in other organizations stating that successive governments in the past chose not to disturb this “policy”.
