Workers rounded up at Umroi Airport

NONGPOH: Many workers engaged in construction of the boundary wall of Umroi Airport       were rounded up by the pressure group Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CORP), Mawbuh Circle on Thursday.
The intention was to check influx and CORP Mawbuh Circle president Baiateilang Lapang along with other members carried out surprise inspection at the construction site in this regard.
The pressure group alleged that hundreds of non-indigenous labourers, who were engaged in construction of the boundary wall, failed to produce valid documents especially labour license and EPIC for identification.
CORP leader Lapang said that the organization had asked the concerned contractor entrusted with the construction to prepare all the valid documents especially the labour license of the non-indigenous workers within 10 days failing which the organization will be compelled to take stern action against the workers.
Recently, after the High Court’s intervention, the state government has initiated expansion work of the Umroi Airport. The construction of the boundary wall of the Airport is part of the initiative.
