Assam cop killed in shootout with carlifters

Guwahati: One police officer was killed and a jawan was injured following a shootout with a gang of suspected  car lifters at Chungajan under Barpathar police station in Golaghat district of Assam bordering Nagaland on Sunday night
Police informed that the gang of criminals fired upon a team of police personnel from Barpathar police station when the latter were on an operation to recover a stolen car.
The office-in-charge (OC) of Barpathar police station Binod Pangshu, who was injured in the shootout, succumbed to his injuries at the nearby hospital. One police jawan Manoj Saikia was injured in the shootout.
