Agartala: Tripura has recorded as many as 674 cases of suicide in 11 months between February and December of 2015, which estimated more than one case of suicide each day. Replying to a query of opposition legislator Ratan Lal Nath today Chief Minister Manik Sarkar informed the assembly that the rate of suicide in Tripura has been increasing over the year but the cause is yet unknown. According to Sarkar, altogether 617 people had committed suicide in 2012-2013 and in 2013-14 the figure rose to 744. In 2015 the figure has registered at 674, which is a cause of concern for all. Nath claimed that social insecurity, joblessness and political vandalism perpetrated by the ruling Left Front over the past 22 years have created frustration among the youths and marginal income groups in the state, which ultimately led to suicide. “Unless the government stops politicizing each and every opportunity for the youths and poor class, it is impossible to arrest the frustration and psychological unrest in the society. The government must redefine the development and growth,” Nath added. (UNI)
