SHILLONG: Shillong police has sought for deployment of additional central paramilitary forces for the   upcoming South Asian Games scheduled to be held in Shillong from February 6-16.
SP (City) Vivek Syiem on Friday said there will be a three tier security cover at each of the venues in the city besides deployment of frisking teams.
Besides deployment of a company of troops at each of the venue, police personnel would also cover the hotels  where the athletes and officials will be staying. In addition, there will also be police control rooms set up in the hotels and the venues, he added.
According to Syiem, CCTV cameras will be installed in the venues and a large presence of police personnel in plain clothes will boost the security cover.
He also said that athletes will have the right of way and they will be provided escorts to ensure that they   reach the venues on time.
Police will get around 200 NCC cadets for traffic management and would rope in 200 NSS volunteers to manage the venues. Each of the venues will be handled by a gazette officer.
The city police will also strengthen the security in the city during the games.
