MeECL urged to ‘rectify violation of reservation policy’

SHILLONG: The youth wing of the UDP has urged MeECL to rectify an alleged violation of the State’s job reservation Policy by the corporation.
According to media reports, the MeECL had violated the job reservation policy in the recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics). As per reports, the MeECL had published an advertisement on October 20 last year inviting applications to fill four posts of Assistant Engineer (Electronics), two  posts of Junior Engineer (Civil) and 12 posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical).
The result of the written examination was declared on December 9, 2015 but the affected candidates pointed out that out that out of seven candidates who passed the written test for the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics), only two candidates were selected from scheduled tribe category, thereby causing a violation of the job reservation Policy.
As per the reservation Policy, “if the number of vacancies is nine or less, the same shall be treated as reserved vacancies in favour of the protected communities as specified in the Resolution and Office Memoranda.”
In a letter addressed to the Chairman -cum-Managing Director, MeECL on Tuesday, general secretary of UDP’s youth wing, Hamlet Dohling said that MeECL had carried out the recruitment process to vacancies of less than nine posts in direct violation of the state’s reservation policy.
“This will further deprive the deserving indigenous candidates of a chance for employment,” the UDP said.
The UDP also asked MeECL to stay the process of calling for personal interviews, pending the rectification and streamlining of the already conducted written interview, in consonance with the state’s reservation Policy.
